A joyous, spring Drumtochty Castle wedding
The ethereal location of Drumtochty Glen in Aberdeenshire was the ideal put for Heather and Andrew to tie the knot.
Acquiring at first commenced preparing a marquee wedding ceremony, they switched venues midway as a result of and ended up thrilled with their springtime celebration at the sublime Drumtochty Castle.
From Heather’s rust orange velvet shoes to her fantastic flower crown to the desire wedding day crew (place the WFILfam folks, highlighted in orange), there is SO a lot to really like!
How did you two meet up with?
We went to the exact same secondary university and ended up fantastic mates just before getting to be a few in fifth calendar year. Andrew (finally) proposed on our 10 12 months anniversary!
What influenced your marriage programs.
We are not extremely traditional, so we didn’t sense notably constrained by the norms. Our primary inspiration was just to make the day relaxed, comfy and cosy for us and our friends.
Tell us about your venue…
We really modified venues mid-way by means of arranging. Initially, we had been going to have a marquee design Do-it-yourself marriage ceremony in the grounds of a personal-employ the service of property, but specified the uncertainty and the logistics of pulling jointly hundreds of distinctive suppliers, we decided to go.
Drumtochty Castle is situated in the village where Andrew grew up, so it is extremely nearby to us and experienced this kind of a common feeling – we have normally admired it from afar! The reality that we could host our closest spouse and children and pals collectively below 1 roof for the overall marriage weekend definitely appealed to us.
On top of that, the workforce at Drumtochty are unbelievable and took the pressure out of our preparing! The food stuff through the weekend was remarkable. We handed the location a long checklist of nutritional prerequisites and they taken care of it with total relieve.
We were so nicely appeared immediately after by all of the team through the weekend and it felt actually intimate to have the put to ourselves.
We experienced the ceremony exterior the front of the castle and our attractive humanist celebrant was Gary Smith. He acted immediately when a big gust of wind blew more than one of the flower preparations and gave every person a chuckle.
As we only experienced a little variety of company, we held our reception in Drumtochty’s eating area, where we all sat all over a single desk.
We like your outfits! Tell us more…
My costume was from Catherine Deane (the Faithful gown). I located it buying online and managed to grab it in the sale! Bridal boutique procuring just was not for me, and remaining a short girl, I understood that whatever I observed would want a ton of modifying in any case – it felt much less difficult for me to do it from home.
My gown was quite summery, an off-white oyster color and protected in dotted chiffon and lace detailing. It is certainly almost nothing like what I imagined I would go for (obtaining no sleeves and remaining off-white!) but I felt super cozy and relaxed, which is the most crucial detail in my reserve. Frances Bean in Stonehaven altered my dress and was so individual and skilful, adjusting it to in good shape me completely.
I also wore a pair of rust orange velvet mules with my gown, as I could not find any ‘traditional’ sneakers I appreciated. I adored them and they gave my outfit a pleasant pop of colour! Importantly – they were also tremendous comfy. I wore some deep blue sapphire earrings that were gifted to me on the early morning of the wedding day from Andrew (via his sister) and a gorgeous, multi-coloured flower crown created by our wonderful florist, Linda. I experienced a deep crimson velvet cardi for later on in the night when it got cooler.
Andrew wore his own kilt from R Doig & Sons in Montrose, along with his very own extras. His kilt pin was a specific gift from his parents some many years back and his view was a reward from me for his 18th birthday.
Your photos are attractive!
We located Loraine Ross when we were being trawling through the web for a Scottish photographer we beloved. As quickly as we spotted her photos we ended up right away drawn to her calm, candid and vibrant fashion! She was so proficient and valuable in the run up to the day and far more than pleased to chat to us when we experienced any issues.
We like how certainly our pictures seize our wedding ceremony working day. Loraine equipped in so very well on the working day and did this kind of a great task creating us truly feel at ease (with no as well a lot posing!). We will cherish our pictures forever and we feel so fortunate to have experienced Loraine there to capture them!
What was your 1st dance track?
We didn’t system on possessing a very first dance, but our loved ones and mates had been acquiring none of that and just after a couple of eyeglasses of champers we finally obliged. Andrew place on Billy Joel’s ‘Piano Man’ as he is familiar with it is a tune I love and we had a wee dance to that.
Ended up there any difficulties along the way?
Modifying the venue was very stressful but we acquired there in the finish! I come to feel like on the day we entirely forgot about everything demanding in the run up to the marriage ceremony and just appreciated each and every minute. The silent disco was a really final-minute addition and we are so happy that we went with it in the close.
Did you control to adhere to your spending budget?
Certainly, but that was aided massively by the compact guest checklist.
Any guidance?
Never enable pressure or custom dictate your plans. Do what you want, it’s your wedding and the people that adore you will like what you do!
Honeymoon or minimoon?
We had initially prepared to have a a few week excursion abroad, possibly travelling around Asia or South The united states, but we didn’t guide nearly anything because of the uncertainty all over travel!
As an alternative, we used two months on the west coastline of Scotland – it was superb. Fingers crossed we can do the major journey up coming 12 months.
What’s the 1 moment you will often remember?
Andrew’s brother Neil (finest gentleman) lives in New Zealand and was not capable to arrive throughout for the marriage. He recorded his speech, which Andrew’s dad, Angus played for us on the working day. It felt like he was in the home with us, it was fantastic – there was not a dry eye in the home!
Due to the fact we weren’t originally preparing on getting a cake, we did not actually feel about the logistics of when to slash the cake and what to lower it with. When the time arrived right after evening meal (and following Andrew and I had consumed our honest share of wine with our meal!), we were being handed a sword to slice the cake! We ended up completely stunned and observed it totally hilarious in equivalent measures and roared with laughter whilst wielding our sword to slice our cake.
Which of your suppliers absolutely rocked your wedding day working day? Any person you’d like to give a shout out to?
All of our suppliers were amazing and we would endorse them all.
Loraine contributed so a great deal to our working day and has given us images that will preserve our recollections fresh new for a lifetime. The team at Drumtochty have been incredible in the course of our marriage weekend and created us all feel at dwelling.
Linda, our florist, totally knocked it out of the park with the flowers, they had been extraordinary and we had been in complete awe. Gary, our humanist celebrant, gave us a comfortable and personalized ceremony that we will generally don’t forget.
Finally, the Ritz Trio are such a elegant team of guys and their new music was the great addition to our day!
