Our “Good Omens” marriage at a glance:
I was recovering from my initially spherical of COVID when we started off preparing, and given that I experienced been preparing my marriage ceremony since I was 5 several years outdated, I needed to make sure we prepared jointly and that Joshua experienced plenty of say. He reported early on he needed to get married somewhere a tiny even more away with less people, which we did!
We knew from the starting that we have been not having lawfully married and are ethically non-monogamous. When requested to come up with an alternative to a marriage, I was re-studying a beloved Neil Gaiman e-book (and binging the Television set series) Excellent Omens… so we arrived up with Wedpocalypse.
We didn’t want common “wedding events,” so we experienced the Four Horsefolk of the Wedpocalypse, aka two newly married couples who had been also our greatest/close good friends.
We had Zoom sessions to edit our vows/ceremony readings, seeking to be intentional with our time and focusing on what definitely mattered versus the little aspects.
All décor was Do-it-yourself, from the video clip invite, tassel strands handmade from fabric scraps from my former job, the spray painted allium centerpieces, the desk names (centered on contra dance moves, since that’s how we met), the “bouquets,” the brooches and fabric bouquets for the bride, and the symbols of the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse (Sword, Crown, Arrow, and Scales.)
We produced a total weekend out of it, with speeches at the rehearsal dinner instead of the reception, yoga/spa time in the morning as nicely as board game titles, and a Sunday send-absent brunch. Approximately 30 of the 69 individual visitor listing (heh heh) stayed for the weekend.

We experienced two signature cocktails: Josh’s was ‘The Blue Ponytail’, named right after his hair for the initial half of our courtship, although mine was a Tequila Sunrise for my enjoy of The Eagles, and for tequila. We snuck away from the team pictures to have the very first ten minutes to ourselves in the tented pavilion with the Horsefolk, and guaranteed we received fed initial.
We did not have anything like a garter toss/bouquet toss/game titles, but following dinner I had my ultimate wardrobe modify for some a lot more shots. We did do a “fight call” exercise with good friends who agreed to aid us with the Hora, and had a number of official dances.
Our initial dance was a very choreographed waltz to ‘Nothing Else Matters’ by Metallica.
Josh and his mom danced to ‘Good Seeking Boy’ by The Who, and I danced with equally my Dad and Stepdad to mashups: Dad’s was ‘Try A Minor Tenderness’ by Otis Redding and ‘Tequila’ by The Champs, although my Stepdad’s was ‘The Extremely hard Dream’ as performed by Brian Stokes Mitchell (that is the display where by he fulfilled my Mom) and ‘Footloose’ by Kenny Loggins.
What was the most critical lesson you figured out from your Great Omens marriage?
We were lucky to have negligible loved ones drama, they knew from the get-go this was not going to be a conventional affair. Shelling out time and strength organizing the ceremony and not perspiring the foolish specifics that men and women get SO caught up in was really important and helped us program how our marriage would start.
Program Totally Almost nothing the several times after your wedding, if you can enable it… hold out to go on your honeymoon. We were exhausted and slept for 3 days apart from when having!
