A destination wedding in a 13th century chapel in Scotland

Travelling all the way from South Pasadena, California, these two love birds celebrated their relationship to each other, and to Scotland, in an personal ceremony in a 13th century chapel.

How did you two satisfy?

I was educating in a superior university and he arrived to my course as a substitute, so obviously, we did not meet up with for a though. I held contacting him again for the reason that my students truly favored him.

When we lastly fulfilled, I realized that he was by now married, so we turned superior close friends. Then I remarried. He came to the marriage. I know, kinda unusual, but it is element of our story, proper? Then he obtained divorced. Then I obtained divorced. By means of all this time, we remained fantastic pals.

1 working day, when we had been the two on campus, it was just like a motion picture – he was going for walks towards me, outdoors, on a wonderful working day. Then, “Oh, hi!”. I was wondering, “OHHHHH, HIIIIII”. We started relationship right after that, and have not seriously been aside because then.

What influenced your wedding programs?

When we visited Scotland in 2014, neither one particular of us was arranging to get married once again. We had been there to fulfill my late brother’s last needs to have his ashes scattered at the kirk at Old Struan, in which my ancestors are from.

On the way there, we stayed at the Old Churches Home Inn. When we were being leaving, the lady at the desk needed to demonstrate us something… it was the 13th century barrel chapel in the again of the home, that was remaining utilised for storage. We could not fail to remember about it when we returned to Los Angeles.

When we last but not least made a decision to get married, there actually wasn’t any other put we considered. We are an more mature few, and preferred a modest ceremony. It all arrived together so fantastically. We assumed we would only have our dear close friends from Belfast in attendance, but persons just retained stating, “I’m coming, too”. We also imagined it would be a fantastic time for my siblings to be able to visit the chapel at Previous Struan exactly where we had the ceremony for our brother. It was lovely – and Cold in January.

I wore a complete, flowy skirt and a lace tank major in ivory. I did not want a standard gown, considering that this was not my very first wedding. I loved the gown, which was from a shop in South Pasadena. I also purchased a Robertson plaid, and I lined it with ivory fleece for additional warmth.

Taggart wore a wonderful accommodate from Macy’s in Pasadena, California. We acquired a fantastic waistcoat in Edinburgh before the wedding day simply because we traveled in and all over the British isles for about three weeks prior to the wedding, and the waistcoat he brought was a little cosy!

How did you decide on your photographer?

My spouse is a professional photographer, so I left the selection to him. Ashley’s approach was to get photos that were being a little extra candid and significantly less posed, which we favored. We felt that his photos definitely captured the working day and how we felt about every single other and the individuals who came from the Uk and the States to be with us on our distinctive day. He was also ready to travel with us from Dunblane to Old Struan to take pics of us at that place. It was so special for my spouse and children that was not in a position to journey with us.

Had been there any troubles together the way?

We equally had horrible colds, nevertheless, there was no way that was likely to stop us from having a excellent time.

Tell us much more about your flowers…

I would have loved to have a florist, but struggled to resource bouquets all through the week amongst Christmas and New Yrs. So, I had some attractive dried flowers, which my wedding ceremony planner Helen Davies place together. She did an wonderful job, in particular because we ended up preparing from Los Angeles. I could not have pulled all this off with no her.

Did you take care of to adhere to your budget?

No. Hahahaha. An worldwide marriage ceremony is bound to go in excess of price range, but we definitely did not care.

Flexible imagining is fantastic, in particular when there are a lot of different demands and distinctive personalities. We ended up all ready to invest time jointly possibly traveling, or sharing a food. I didn’t overthink nearly anything. We made common strategies and invited whomever desired to take part. There was no stress to test to you should anyone all at the exact same time.

Honeymoon or minimoon?

Our honeymoon happened just before the real marriage ceremony. We are both equally in instruction, and had three months trip. We remaining a several times just before the conclude of the fall semester and traveled in the United kingdom in advance of the marriage.

Our friends arrived at diverse moments based on their schedules, so we have been equipped to journey/invest time with them all independently ahead of the marriage. We expended a couple of days ahead of the marriage ceremony with everyone in Edinburgh, and once again following the wedding day. we were also in a position to spend a pair of days in Edinburgh before coming property. We specifically cherished Hogmanay less than the castle and the Xmas market.

What’s the one particular second you will always recall?

That working day was a finish really like-fest for us. The persons that attended all liked every single other much too. Even although most of them experienced never ever achieved just before. It built the working day so special to see the men and women we really like all alongside one another for us.

Why did you get married in Scotland?

We both really like Scotland, and felt a connection to spots there that we hardly ever felt in California. We specifically felt linked to 1 a different in a way that was definitely unique. That experience of connectedness has remained, and our memories of our time there are nonetheless vibrant. We cannot hold out to return, and have talked about relocating to the United kingdom, so we can visit extra usually.
