The Couple

Love Story

“What happens in Vegas… doesn’t have to stay in Vegas Our story began in a city where most love stories don’t. It was Memorial Day weekend in 2017, and I had just made a last-minute decision to fly to Vegas. Little did I know, my future husband had made a similar decision, and had landed in Sin City just a few hours earlier. I first met Connor standing outside a nightclub. While the two of us were strangers, the friends we both came to Vegas with knew each other, so we really have them to thank for us meeting that night. Connor and I instantly hit it off, but at the end of the night we went our separate ways. The boys continued on with their boys’ weekend, and the girls did the same. It wasn’t until the last day of the trip that we all decided to meet up again. After spending most of the weekend apart, we were both eager to make up for lost time, so we spent our last few hours in Vegas in an unconventional way—going on a first date together. After hours of deep conversation, dinner, and walks along the strip, it felt like we’d known each other a lot longer than a weekend. Neither of us wanted the date to end, so we made a crazy decision for me to skip my flight home, just so the date could continue for a few more hours. However, the odds weren’t in our favor—Connor had just moved to Salt Lake City to start a new career, and I lived 2,000 miles away in Toronto. While I was looking to move out west at the time, Salt Lake City wasn’t even on my radar. When the weekend was over, we both flew back to our respective parts of the continent, but against all odds, something kept us together. Over the next few months, we met up with each other in different cities, and near the end of the summer, I visited Connor in Utah. It was during that visit when I realized… maybe Salt Lake City was the place out west I’d been looking to move to. So I listened to my gut and uprooted my life to give our relationship a real shot. Half a decade later, I couldn’t imagine my life turning out any better. They say what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas, but I’m glad that wasn’t the case for our story.”
